How to Download and Use Tic Tac Toe Icons for Your Projects

Tic tac toe is a simple and popular game that can be played by anyone, anywhere, anytime. It is also a great source of inspiration for designers who want to create icons for their projects. In this article, you will learn what tic tac toe is, how to play it, why you need tic tac toe icons for your projects, and how to download and use them.

What is Tic Tac Toe and How to Play It

Tic tac toe is a paper-and-pencil game for two players who take turns marking the spaces in a three-by-three grid with X or O. The player who succeeds in placing three of their marks in a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal row is the winner. If all nine squares are filled and neither player has made a complete row of Xs or Os, then the game is a draw.

The History and Rules of Tic Tac Toe

An early variation of the game was played in the Roman Empire, around the first century B.C. It was called "terni lapilli", which means "three pebbles at a time". The game's grid markings have been found chalked all over Roman ruins. Evidence of the game was also found in ancient Egyptian ruins. The first print reference to "noughts and crosses", the British name for the game, appeared in 1864. The first print reference to a game called "tick-tack-toe" occurred in 1884 but referred to a children's game played on a slate.

The rules for tic tac toe are simple:

  • The game is played on a grid that's 3 squares by 3 squares.

  • You are X, your friend (or the computer) is O. Players take turns putting their marks in empty squares.

  • The first player to get 3 of their marks in a row (up, down, across, or diagonally) is the winner.

  • When all 9 squares are full, the game is over. If no player has 3 marks in a row, the game ends in a tie.

The Variations and Strategies of Tic Tac Toe

Tic tac toe can be made more complex by increasing the size of the board to 4-by-4, 5-by-5, or even up to a 20-by-20 grid. The goal is to get four or five in a row, depending on the size of the board. Some people also play with different shapes or colors instead of Xs and Os.
